Tottenham: Son Heung-min would take Champions League spot over Golden Boot

Tottenham striker Son Heung-min said he would rather qualify for the Champions League than win the Golden Boot.

The South Korean player has 21 goals in the Premier League this season, with Muhammad Salah currently leading with 22.

Tottenham are fifth in the league, one point behind rivals Arsenal, with two games left.

“It would be great but finishing in the top four is important to us,” the 29-year-old said.

Son scored his 21st goal in a north London derby on Thursday as Tottenham beat Arsenal 3-0.

He has 10 goals in his last eight games, including a hat-trick against Aston Villa.

Asked if he would score more goals to qualify for the Champions League, Son replied: “Yes, 100%.

“Obviously it’s good to be in the race, but I’ve said many times that it’s more important to be in the top four than anything else.”

Tottenham host Burnley at 12:00 GMT on Sunday before finishing the season at Norwich on 22 May.

Son Hongmin promised to score against Burnley after being substituted in the second half of the game at Arsenal, coach Antonio Conte told reporters on Friday.

Son said the Spurs’ schedule and early game opening were “crazy.”

“I’m not always happy when I come down because I want to play, because I like to play football and I want to help the team,” said the son.

“I can understand why because we played very fast on Sunday. I can not guarantee a goal, but I will give my best for the team, even if I do not score. The best I can do fine

“Honestly, if you look at the schedule, it’s crazy. It’s a very quick turnaround and we have to do everything we can to recover and retrain.”
