Ireland v India: Andrew Balbirnie relishing ‘amazing experience’ against world’s best
Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie said there was no 20-game series against the world. India will be the “big promotion” for this game.
The Irishman in 14th place hopes to surprise in the Malahide games on Sunday and Tuesday.
“The experience of playing for such a team has been fantastic for Irish cartoonists and fans,” Balbirnie said.
“You’ll see some big cricket in countries like India and Ireland, and that’s going to boost the game a lot.”
Fans will return to Ireland’s international players for the first time since the 2019 Covid-19 epidemic, when Sunday’s games run out.
Malahide also hosted the final of both teams in 2018, with India winning both T20 series more easily.
Match them to a Squad in India
Suryakumar Yadav returns from injury and Sanju Samson is called up.
Regular captain Rohit Sharma, star racket Wirt Kohli, Rishab Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Muhammad Shami rested during the tour.
Ireland have summoned their first North West Warriors duo Conor Albert and Stephen Dohney. This is as they seek their first win over India.
India will travel to England after a full-time game. Whereas, Ireland will continue their busy summer schedule with six games against New Zealand.
The focus of Ireland this year is the T20 World Cup in October, when the India series begins preparations for Australia.
“Before the World Cup, we wanted the players to understand their roles and understand them well, so we did not play things in the tournament,” said Balbirnie.
“We want to select our top 15 players and give the players a chance to gamble and not connect them with other teams or teams because it is difficult to survive as a player and as a team.”
