England 3-0 Belgium: How close is Sarina Wiegman to knowing her best starting XI?

Sarina Wiegman has set a solid opening line for England’s win over Belgium and says she is “closer” to identifying her 11 best players – but did the impact of the exchanges make her decision difficult?

England won 3-0 after Wolverhampton created plenty of chances and was with the ball.

But it was a substitution in the second half that helped England cross the goal line after a frustrating first half.

Chloe Kelly smashed England’s first goal with a spinning ball before substitute Rachel Daley got a second four minutes later.

The last own goal confirmed the victory for England, who eventually managed to take over Molino.

There are two more friendlies against the Netherlands at Leeds’ Elland Road on June 24 and Switzerland on June 30. Before the start of the European Championship against Austria at Old Trafford on July 6.

Some options seem clearer than others. For example, Wegman confirmed that goalkeeper Mary Zero was No. 1 on April, while forwards Lauren Hemp, Beth Mead and Elaine White formed a solid attacking trio.

Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze and Demi Stokes are key players on defense. While Keira Walsh Williamson has formed an exciting partnership in midfield.

They stood with Belgium from the start and did not hurt their chances of playing a permanent role in the European Championship.

But Georgia Stanway has a chance to try and form a bigger role in midfield against young Arto and Frank Kirby who can take on the heavy tasks after a tiring season.

She had a particularly good relationship with Williamson in the first half. However, during the game, England sometimes lacked aerodynamics and speed in midfield.

The victory over Belgium showed the strength of the England team. This could turn out to be decisive in the European Championship. With Wegman placing late demands at the head of the starting line-up.

Kelly is a player who wants to take on a starting role when the Euros rise.

He eventually managed to deny England’s distorted opening at the gate. Encouraged to “enjoy” and play freely on the bench against Belgium.

The Manchester City winger, who has returned from a long-term injury, said she “hopes to show in these friendly games what I can do”. But Wiegman is relieved by what she has seen so far.
