England’s top-ranked Cameron Norrie continues his preparations for the upcoming French Open with a streak of victories at the ATP event in Lyon.
Ranked No. 1, Norrie, defeated Argentine Francisco Throndolo of Argentina 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
The 26-year-old player suffered a leg injury in Rome last week.
Meanwhile, Liam Brody was one of three British players to win the French Open qualifiers in the first round.
28-year-old Broady defeated Argentine Renzo Olivo 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 to start his Grand Slam streak. It is something he has never done before.
The British Paul Jubb and Eurico Miyazaki also defeated American Christopher Eubanks against Swiss Ylena 6-2, 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (10-4) and Miyazaki 6-3 6 in Paris.
The trio must survive two more qualifying rounds to reach the platoon, which begins Sunday on Roland Garros land.
However, Katie Swan and Ryan Beniston were relegated after losses to Bulgaria’s Victoria Tomova and Russia’s Andrei Kuznetsov.
Jay Clark, another British player in the qualifiers, was beaten on Monday.
Elsewhere, second-placed British women Heather Watson lost 6-1, 6-1 to Poland’s Magda Lynette at the WTA Championship in Strasbourg.
Watson, who is currently ranked 105th in the world, will now focus directly on the French Open, where he will qualify for the main draw.
Last year’s unbeaten finalist, Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, will not play in Paris. It was after he decided to stay for the rest of the season to recover from a recurring knee injury.
